West Bank under siege as Israeli forces intensify deadly raids

  • West Bank under siege as Israeli forces intensify deadly raids

Palestinians in the West Bank have been forced into a lockdown following intensified Israeli attacks.

The continuation of widespread crimes by the Israeli military and settlers in the West Bank has forced Palestinians into various forms of confinement.

According to Al Jazeera, a human rights group has warned that as Israel’s large-scale and deadly military operations continue in the occupied West Bank, entire Palestinian communities in parts of the region have been forced into lockdown.

Save the Children also announced on Friday, November 28, 2025, that families in the northern West Bank have been taking shelter in their homes out of fear of Israeli military violence, after Israel launched a major operation earlier this week.

The child rights organization stated that the lockdowns “are keeping children out of school, threatening family incomes, and increasing the risk of physical violence and child detention by Israeli forces.”

Since Wednesday, Israeli forces have besieged large parts of the Tubas governorate in the northeastern West Bank and carried out a series of major raids in other towns and cities across the occupied West Bank, including Jenin.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported on Friday that since the beginning of the assault, Israeli soldiers have injured dozens of people in the Tubas region, while more than 160 others have been arrested.

The Israeli regime claims the operation aims to eliminate Palestinian resistance, but residents say the army has been carrying out indiscriminate attacks against civilians, blocking the movement of journalists and ambulances, and damaging infrastructure.

An incident filmed on Thursday in Jenin shows Israeli soldiers shooting and killing two Palestinian men who were attempting to surrender; the video has prompted widespread global condemnation.

Palestinians throughout the occupied West Bank have been facing escalating violence from Israeli forces and settlers amid Israel’s genocidal war on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which has killed nearly 70,000 people since October 2023.

According to UN reports, Israeli military and settler attacks have killed more than 1,000 Palestinians in the West Bank since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza.

The northern West Bank has been particularly devastated: roughly 32,000 residents of several refugee camps have been displaced from their homes since January, and Israel has prevented their return.

The Israeli army has also carried out widespread home demolitions, an action that human rights groups and UN officials describe as a campaign of forced displacement.

Experts say this week’s assault in the Tubas governorate is a systematic attack by Israeli forces and a continuation of Israel’s collective punishment policy.

One expert stated: “This operation deprives children of the essential services and supplies they rely on, including education and healthcare; the right to education has been taken away from every child in these areas.”

Continued Israeli attacks on Gaza

Meanwhile, despite agreeing to a ceasefire implemented last month, Israel has continued its attacks on Gaza.

On Friday, Israel struck Khan Younis and Rafah in southern Gaza several times; according to local medical sources, an Israeli drone strike killed a Palestinian in Bani Suhaila, a town east of Khan Younis.

According to the latest data from Gaza’s Ministry of Health, at least 347 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire began on October 10.

Ismail al-Thawabteh, director of Gaza’s Government Media Office, said on Friday that Israel has committed 535 violations of the ceasefire since it came into effect.

In a statement, he added that the flow of aid into the war-torn territory remains far below what was agreed upon in the ceasefire.

He said: “The Israeli occupation has allowed only 9,930 of the approximately 28,000 requested aid trucks into Gaza — just 35 percent of the declared request — turning aid into a weapon of war for exerting pressure rather than a legal or humanitarian obligation.”

At the same time, reports indicate that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is deteriorating at an unprecedented rate, as Israel’s assault has destroyed essential infrastructure and services.
