  • HR official: How many American police officers have been tried for killing US citizens?

Ali Bagheri Kani reacted to the continuous police brutality against citizens, especially black people, by posting a Twitter message.

“Only 18 days in 2020, was the period when the US police did not kill anyone and George Floyd was only one of the 1127 victims of police brutality. How many American police officers have been tried for killing US citizens? "It is not unreasonable that even the trial of George Floyd’s murderer could not prevent the Dante Wright victims from being killed”, the Secretary of the High Council for Human Rights tweeted.

New statistics show that 1,127 people were killed by US police last year. In the murders committed by the American police from 2013 to 2020, in 98.3% of the cases, no charges were filed against the offenders.

A recent shooting by a female police officer against Dante Wright, a 20-year-old black American man for violating traffic rules that led to his death, sparked protests in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and spread to other US cities.

The incident coincided with the trial of Derek Chavin, a police officer charged with the murder of George Floyd, a young black man who died in the same city last year while in police custody pressure on, paving the way for the formation of a global protest movement with the slogan "black lives matter."

Statistics show that black people are three times more likely to be killed by US police than white citizens. Black citizens are 1.3 times more likely to be unarmed than white citizens.
