Special Repporteur who ignores sanctions is a traitor to human rights, acts as accomplice in crimes against Iranian people: HCHR

  • Special Repporteur who ignores sanctions is a traitor to human rights, acts as accomplice in crimes against Iranian people: HCHR

In reaction to the UN Special Rapporteur's politicized report, the High Council for Human Rights issued a statement.

Following the publication of the UN Special Rapporteur’s report on Iran, the HCHR  criticized the political approach adopted in the mentioned report and citing legal evidence, noted the serious shortcomings of the report.

The text of the statement reads as follows,

In the campaign for rights and politics, it is always the rights that are sacrificed to the political interests of the extravagant and arrogant powers, and the mechanism for selecting and extending the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran is a clear example of sacrificing the rights of the Iranian people for the political interests of certain states. For the past decades, they have accompanied and supported the enemies of the Iranian nation and the aggressors of their rights.

"Fairness" and "justice" require the reporter to mention, in addition to the allegations made by terrorist and anti-Iran groups, to look at the realities of human rights in Iran and the measures and actions that underlie or lead to the protection of human rights and mechanisms and structures to improve the situation. But to our surprise, the Special Rapporteur completely turns a blind eye to such human rights realities in Iran.

According to the Special Rapporteur on Iran, tens of innocent children and hundreds of innocent patients died due to the not having access to medicine and medical equipment resulted from the implementation and implementation of cruel, illegal and criminal sanctions by the US regime, which means a clear violation of the "right to life" and the "right to health" of thousands of Iranian citizens. More interestingly, one paragraph of this report is devoted to the situation of a prisoner in Iran, but this report, which is allegedly related to "human rights", has no value for human lives and innocent people.

On the other hand, according to credible polls, the main concern of the Iranian people in the current situation is economic issues, which are mainly affected by the harsh sanctions of the United States and its western allies, but less than 10% of the report discusses the socio-economic rights of the people, which confirms the "unbalanced and unfair treatment of the human rights situation."

The recent report nowhere mentions the illegitimacy, cruelty, and criminal acts of the US regime and its destructive, damaging, and deadly effects, as well as its international responsibility to impose "exceptional sanctions." This reflects the politicized approach adopted by the reporter and his defined mission to convey the allegations and accusations made by terrorist and anti-Iran groups.

The Special Rapporteur speaks of the lack of definition of Islamic norms regarding the provision of women's rights leading to non-observance of women's dignity in Iranian law, while in the view of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the idea of "gender justice" takes precedence over "gender equality" since the former provides for the benefit of women. Dowry, alimony and retribution are examples of legal institutions that are specifically designed for women's rights system in Islam and in favor of women.

More importantly, the progress of Iranian women and the human rights achievements of the Islamic Republic are remarkable. A clear example is the increase in employment and participation of more than 40% of women in the country's economy and holding senior management positions, including as vice president, member of the parliament, ambassadors, judges, governors, mayors and…

Based on the evidence presented in a 30-page letter to the UN Secretary General and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Islamic Republic of Iran proves that the three main conditions in the Special Repporteurs' duties, namely "neutrality", "independence" and "fairness", have not been fully met. And for this reason, he is incapable of fulfilling the central conditions of "goodness", "honesty" and "professionalism" and is far from "justice", "merit" and "efficiency". Therefore, such a report lacks "legitimacy".
