Freedom presented to imprisoned fathers on Father’s Day: HCHR

  • Freedom presented to imprisoned fathers on Father’s Day: HCHR

On Father's Day, a number of imprisoned fathers were granted furlough and some others were released by charities and philanthropists in cooperation with the Bureau of Prisons, the High Council for Human Rights reported.

Based on their culture and religion, people of each country celebrate a special day to appreciate the efforts of their fathers, and in Iran, the day of the first Imam of the Shiites is called Father's Day. Although celebrations are common on religious holidays, on this special day, family members gather to appreciate the efforts of the father of the family and to honor him.

Hence, the benefactors and the judiciary decided to make a special effort to provide the opportunity for the imprisoned fathers to celebrate this day with their families.

In this regard, more than 78 inmates were released during the final period of their imprisonment, and more than a thousand others who were eligible went on a furlough to hug their children on Father's Day.

Granting furloughs on the occasion of national and religious holidays is one of the special approaches of the judiciary to help prisoners and their families. In addition to the possibility of being sent on a furlough, the innovation of the Islamic Republic of Iran is the pardoning prisoners on national and religious holidays, who are recognized as entitled to amnesty according to the law.
