Mansour Haji, the director-general of the Tehran Province Bureau for Aliens and Foreign Immigrants Affairs, announced the first identity card's issuance for the child of an Iranian woman who was married to a non-Iranian.
Mansour Haji said that in the implementation of the Citizenship Law approved by the Iranian Parliament, 18,300 applicants registered on the Bureau for Aliens and Foreign Immigrants Affairs' website and the Ministry of Interior.
In May 2018, parliament members agreed on a bill on granting citizenship to children born to Iranian women married to foreign men.
Based on the law, children born to Iranian women married to non-Iranian men who were or will be born before or after the passage of this law will become Iranian citizens at the mother's request before reaching 18.
According to the law, if the mother does not apply for her children after 18, they can apply for citizenship by themselves.
