The parliament passed a bill on Sunday to grant citizenship right to children born to Iranian mothers.

Deliberations were held at the formal session before voting reviewing the Civil Rights Law of Iran and the bill was adopted by 188 votes in favor, 20 votes against and three abstaining.
The session was attended by Iran's Vice-President for Women and Family Affairs, Masoumeh Ebtekar, and the Vice-Presdient for Legal Affairs Laya Joneydi.

The bill is considered a major breakthrough to protect the women's rights.
As per the new law, thousands of children born to Iranian mothers abroad and inside the country will enjoy the rights of a citizen enshrined by the Civil Rights Law of Iran.
