Iran’s HR Chief Criticized Javid Rahman for not Supporting the UN Experts’ Statement on Sanctions against Iran

  • Iran’s HR Chief Criticized Javid Rahman for not Supporting the UN Experts’ Statement on Sanctions against Iran

The Secretary-General of the High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran criticized Javid Rahman's deliberate silence over a statement by a group of UN independent experts on excessive compliance with US sanctions and violations of the rights of the Iranian people.

HCHR- Kazem Gharibabadi, Vice-President of the Judiciary for International Affairs and Secretary-General of the High Council for Human Rights, strongly criticized Javid Rahman, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, for not supporting the recent statement of several UN Special Rapporteurs and experts and their warning about the effects of over-compliance by some countries, such as Sweden, with US sanctions against the Iranian people.

He stated: “This deliberate disregard by the so-called rapporteur on the fundamental rights of Iranian patients, which is constantly being violated due to US sanctions and the adherence to some other countries, has left no doubt in his bias and dependence, and in a way, has left him on the side of defenders of the violation of the rights of Iranian people instead of defenders of human rights in Iran”.

Gharibabadi added: "The fact that the rapporteur joins all political statement against Iran and attends the gatherings of terrorist groups and bases his reports on biased and deviant information but is not willing to identify the real violation of Iranian rights, leaves no doubt that the mission of special rapporteur for Iran is designed according to political criteria and must be terminated.

It should be noted that a group of UN human rights experts and rapporteurs issued a joint statement a few days ago warning of some countries' excessive compliance with unilateral sanctions against Iran, and openly called it a violation of the right to health and other human rights of Iranian people.

The statement referred to the ban on special bandage for EB patients (butterfly) by Swedish companies as an example of severe suffering, serious harm and inhumane treatment. The statement went on to point out the severe restrictions on financial and banking exchanges as well as transportation, and stressed that pharmaceutical companies, for the fear of possible US punishment, are overly complying with US anti-humanitarian sanctions against the nation.

The statement also noted that EB patients are just a small group of thousands of patients who have suffered severely as a result of unilateral US sanctions and the compliance of foreign companies with those sanctions. At the end of the statement, it is stated that the Sweden government has committed widespread human rights violations due to such behavior of the companies under its jurisdiction, and as a result, its international responsibility is obvious.
