  • The Indonesian Human Rights delegation visits Evin Prison

The Indonesian human rights delegation, during a visit to various sections of Evin Prison, condemned the Israeli regime’s aggression against this prison.
 

The Indonesian human rights delegation visited Evin Prison on Tuesday, October 14.

Officials from Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran were present during this visit.

The Indonesian delegation visited different parts of Evin Prison that had been targeted by the Israeli regime’s aggression, including the administrative building and the prison hospital.

Inda Nuria Savitri, Director General of Human Rights and Migration at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during this visit, while condemning the Israeli regime’s attack on Evin Prison, said:

“We came here within the framework of human rights talks, and as you know, our country has also condemned this attack.”

She continued: “We are carrying out the ninth round of human rights talks, and this program was part of it.”

The Director General of Human Rights at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “We had many discussions, including on civil and political rights and the rights of prisoners.”

Savitri emphasized: “Such attacks are against international regulations, and those who carry out these attacks and commit these crimes must be held accountable.”

She pointed out the services provided in Iran’s prisons and said: “Your work is admirable. You have many centers and provide numerous services in various areas such as healthcare, education, sports, and vocational training, and you prepare individuals to return to normal life in society.”

The Director General of Human Rights and Migration at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “We see that after the Israeli regime’s attack; you have done a lot of work to bring the conditions in this prison back to normal.”

Jamiyari, Deputy Director General of Tehran Province Prisons, during this visit, while providing explanations about the services provided in the country’s prisons, said: “At the time when we were providing services to prisoners, the fighter jets of the Israeli regime attacked Evin Prison.”

He emphasized: “This action was carried out in violation of legal systems and international commitments.”

Jamiyari said: “Nurses, doctors, social workers, and several prisoners and their family members who had come for visits were martyred or injured.”

The Deputy Director General of Tehran Province Prisons added: “A number of female social workers were martyred in the Israeli regime’s attack on Evin. Unfortunately, young soldiers who were serving were also martyred, and this attack caused significant human and financial losses.”

Jamiyari stated: “The clinic, the infirmary unit, the pharmacy, and the prison’s inpatient ward were bombed in this attack.”

He added: “One of the priorities of Iran’s Prison Organization is creating employment for prisoners so that inmates can receive wages for the work they do while serving their sentences.”

Jamiyari, emphasizing that the rights of prisoners are observed in prisons, continued: “For us, there is no difference between Iranian or foreign prisoners. Their civil rights are fully respected, and we are working in this regard, but in this situation, the Israeli regime attacked Evin Prison and damaged our infrastructure.”

Jamiyari further stated: “We consider the prison as a city and the prisoners as citizens; their civil rights must be respected.”
