In this meeting, the parties expressed their satisfaction with the long-standing and friendly relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Switzerland, and emphasized the continuation and strengthening of relations, especially judicial and human rights dialogues.
Referring to the recent action of the Human Rights Council to extend the mandate of the Special Rapporteur and the Fact-Finding Mission, the Secretary General of the HCHR stated: "Switzerland, as the President of the Human Rights Council, is expected to manage the HRC in such a way that no action outside its mandate and approved agenda is taken."
Regarding the priorities of the High Council for Human Rights, Seraj stated: “The logo of the HCHR contains the verse from the Holy Quran, ‘We have honored humankind,’ which means that the religion of Islam, many years ago, prioritized and emphasized respect for human beings and preserving their dignity, regardless of their race, religion, nationality, or gender.”
He also added: “Articles 2 and 3 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran stipulate the obligation to observe and fulfil human rights, and accordingly, we are obligated to observe it.”
The Secretary General of the HCHR continued to point out the observance and protection of women's rights in our country and said: "No country in the world considers itself as obligated to respect women's rights as the Islamic Republic of Iran. One example of respecting women's rights is the right to education; in this regard, we can mention the number of female students in universities, which make up more than 50 percent of students in this country."
The ambassador of Switzerland also expressed her pleasure at accepting their request to meet with the new Secretary General of the HCHR, and welcomed the continuation of relations between the two countries, including judicial and human rights cooperation, and explicit and open discussions on common issues between the two countries.
