Gharibabadi: the United States does not allow university students and professors to express ideas

  • Gharibabadi: the United States does not allow university students and professors to express ideas

Referring to the protests of university students and professors in the U.S., the Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights said: If there is freedom of expression in the U.S., why did they not allow university students and professors to express their opinion about Palestine and its situation.

HCHR_Kazem Gharibabadi, the Secretary General of the HCHR and the Vice President of the Judiciary for International Affairs, in an interview with Mizan News Agency about the student protests in the U.S. said: “the U.S. do not believe in human rights and human rights is a tool for them to put pressure on independent countries”.

Stating that the U.S do not respect the human rights of its own people as well as the people of other countries, Gharibabadi noted: “the U.S. has committed the many crimes against the people of other countries and has massacred millions of innocent people in other countries”.

Referring to the fact that the United States imposes unilateral and cruel sanctions against 20 countries, the Secretary General of the HCHR added: “Supporting various terrorist groups in different countries, including Iran, is one of the actions of the United States”.

Emphasizing that if there is freedom of expression in the U.S. why did they not allow university students and professors to express their opinion, not about the U.S actions inside, but even about Palestine and its situation, Gharibabadi said: “The U.S. has nothing to do with human rights. The action of the U.S. State Department regarding the presentation of reports on the human rights situation of other countries, is only a political gesture; the U.S. wants to present itself as the claimant of human rights in order to put pressure on countries. The U.S. cannot improve its image in the field of human rights by what it does”.

In another part, Gharibabadi pointed to the possibility of the International Criminal Court issuing an arrest warrant for the officials of the Zionist regime, including Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of this regime, as well as the reaction of the United States to this issue, and said: "It is the normal practice of the U.S to threaten the international courts that are trying to put pressure on the U.S. and its allies”.

The Vice President of the Judiciary for International Affairs stated that the minimum expected from the International Criminal Court is to issue an arrest warrant for Netanyahu due to the crimes committed. He also clarified: “The International Criminal Court in other cases even with lower levels than this crime has issued arrest warrants against heads of states.

Pointing out that putting pressure on the International Criminal Court by the United States is not a new issue, Gharibabadi said: “They did the same thing during the presidency of Donald Trump. Judges and officials of the court were threatened and even some of them were put on the sanctions list”.

At the end, Gharibabadi noted: “These actions of the U.S. should not lead to the fact that the judges of the International Criminal Court do not issue a just verdict. They should not worry about the U.S. actions. If in the shadow of the U.S. threats, a fair sentence is issued, it is of high value.”
