  • The Human Rights Defender Award Was Given to the Director of “The Missing Hand” in Fajr Festival

The Human Rights Defender Award was given to a female director in the section of “Manifestation of People's Will” at the 42nd Fajr Film Festival.

Ahmed Bina, the Deputy Head of the High Council for Human Rights, at the closing ceremony of awarding the winners of the 42nd Fajr International Film Festival, said: “The Supreme Leader said that art is one of the important tools for explaining the concepts of Sacred Defense, and artistic work in the field of Sacred Defense is one of the best works of art.

Referring to the recommendation of the Supreme Leader regarding the importance of using art to reflect Islamic and humane concepts in line with the human rights, cultural and artistic goals and policies of the Islamic Republic and creating a suitable platform for the emergence and expression of artistic creations of artists in introducing Iranian and Islamic high values in the field of human rights, the Deputy Head of the High Council for Human Rights stated: “The High Council for Human Rights has considered an award under the title of Human Rights Defender in the Fajr Festival, which was presented for the first time in the 42nd Fajr Festival to the film "The Missing Hand" by Mrs. Ensieh. Shah Hosseini”.

Bina went on to reject the claims of the West regarding gender discrimination in the Islamic Republic of Iran and pointed out the reasons for choosing this film, saying that: “This film shows the participation and the important role of women in the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of Sacred Defense and shows that women play an active and bold role in all fields from war to media and cinema.

Stating that the director of this film is an Iranian woman and a symbol of women's social participation in the field of cinema, he added: “This film shows the bravery and sacrifices of women during the 8 years of imposed war against Iran. The main character of the film is a reporter girl who met a number of devoted women in the early years of the war and her fate changes. This film tells the story of high human values, an issue that takes the first place in Islamic human rights and has no place in Western human rights”.

In the end, the Deputy Head of the HCHR emphasized: “The HCHR encourages the presence of women in all different fields of society, unfortunately, the ratio of women to men in the field of directing is less. Ms. Ansieh Shahhosseini is the only female director at this year's festival and her presence is commendable. We hope that the presence of women in the festival will be more prominent in the coming years.”
