  • The Second Meeting of the Joint Judicial Committee on Counter Terrorism between Iran and Iraq, in Tehran

The second meeting of the Joint Judicial Committee on Counter Terrorism was held in Tehran under the chairmanship of the Vice-President of the Judiciary for International Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Head of the Judicial Oversight Organization of Iraq.
 

HCHR_The second meeting of the Joint Judicial Committee on Counter Terrorism was held under the chairmanship of Kazem Gharibabadi, the Vice-President of the Judiciary for International Affairs, a member of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, and Judge Leith Jabr Hamzah, the head of the Judicial Oversight Organization and a member of the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq.

In this round of the dialogues, the parties discussed the case of the assassination of Martyr Soleimani and his companions, and the cases of the terrorist groups of the MKOs, the ISIS, Komala, Pak, Khabat, PJak and KDP. The judicial confrontation with those who insulted the Holy Quran and the sanctities of the religions and solving the problems of some pilgrims during the Arbaeen Husseini March, were also among other issues of the dialogues between the judicial authorities of Iran and Iraq.

According to the minutes of the joint meeting signed by the heads of the delegations of the two countries, the parties agreed on the following points:

1. Carrying out the necessary measures to implement the judicial assistance request of the criminal court of Tehran province, regarding the case of the MKO terrorist group, including the investigation of witnesses and others who have information or documents about this terrorist group;
2. Judicial cooperation through the exchange of information, exchange of experiences, documentation of committed crimes and prosecution and punishment of agents of terrorist groups and defense of victims' rights in national and international courts;
3. Serious and urgent consideration of the requests for the extradition of perpetrators and of terrorist crimes should be dealt with, and their prompt extradition in order to deal with impunity;
4. Speeding up in the process of judicial proceedings with the aim of trying and punishing all agents, stewards, commanders and anyone involved in the case of the terrorist and criminal act of Baghdad airport that led to the martyrdom of martyr Soleimani, martyr Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis and their companions, while presenting regular reports to each other about the case. 
5. Placing the groups of MKOs, the ISIS, Takfiri, Komala, KDP, PJak, Khabat and Pak in the list of terrorist groups, with follow-ups through legal authorities, if they have not taken such action so far;
6. Taking necessary measures and provide judicial cooperation, regarding the prosecution, punishment and extradition of those who insult the sanctities of Islam and other heavenly religions, especially the criminal actions of some nationals of the two countries in foreign countries;
7. Addressing the judicial problems of the pilgrims of Arbaeen Hosseini (PBUH), during their trip and providing them with maximum judicial support to solve these problems, since a large number of people participate in Arbaeen March every year.  

It is necessary to explain that the first round of the meeting of the joint committee was held in Baghdad in September.

It is decided to hold the third round of the joint committee meeting in June 2024 in Baghdad.
