Irvani: Palestinian issue can only be resolved by ending Israeli occupation

  • Irvani: Palestinian issue can only be resolved by ending Israeli occupation
Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations said that the Palestinian issue can only be resolved by ending the Israeli regime's occupation.

Amir Saeed Iravani, ambassador and permanent representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, on Thursday at the Security Council meeting about Palestine, stated: "The Islamic Republic of Iran's belief is based that the Palestinian issue can only be resolved by ending the occupation and recognizing the rights of the Palestinian people to determine their own destiny."

He emphasized that this requires the full restoration and protection of these rights, which will lead to the establishment of Palestinian sovereignty over the whole of Palestine.

Iran's ambassador to the United Nations also said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran considers it its duty to support the legitimate rights of Palestine in resisting the oppression and aggression of this apartheid regime in line with the right to self-determination, and this will be the principle policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran until the end of the occupation."

Iravani noted: "It is unfortunate that the Security Council has made the UN resolutions ineffective with its silence and has left the Palestinian people alone in the face of the crimes of Israeli regime."

He added: "The lack of accountability has made this regime bolder and even encouraged to continue violating UN resolutions, including those approved by the Security Council."

The senior diplomat of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated that sympathy alone is no longer enough, and added: "The Security Council must accept the responsibility of implementing its resolutions and act decisively to end the occupation and ensure the protection of Palestinian rights."

Pointing out that the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories is still an urgent and deeply worrying issue requiring the international community's immediate attention and action, Irvani added: "The violence of the Israeli regime and gross and systematic violation of human rights against the Palestinian people still continues."

Furthermore, the intensification of Israeli military raids, arrests, and destruction in the West Bank, along with violence and terror from extremist Israeli settlers, has compounded the already dire humanitarian situation for Palestinians. This constant state of aggression not only infringes on their basic human rights but also obstructs their access to essential services and hinders their economic development.

Meanwhile, as a collective punishment against its population, the continued blockade of Gaza is a clear expression of a war crime and a crime against humanity.

It is regrettable that the Security Council has remained silent, rendering UN resolutions ineffective, and leaving the Palestinian people to endure ongoing atrocities.

The lack of accountability has emboldened and even encouraged this despicable regime to continue violating UN resolutions, including those adopted by the Security Council. 219
