During the Recent RiotsDuring a visit to Tehran prisons, Gharibabadi investigated and followed up on the situation of those arrested during the recent riots.
 

As announced by the Public Relations Center of the Vice Presidency of the Judiciary for International Affairs and the High Council for Human Rights, for three consecutive days, Dr. Kazem Gharibabadi – the Vice President of the Judiciary and the Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran – visited Evin Prison, Greater Tehran Penitentiary as well as Women’s Prison and detention centers operating under the supervision of the State Prisons Organization.

During the visit, he was informed about the situation of those arrested during the recent riots.During the visits, Gharibabadi held separate and exclusive meetings with several detainees and was informed about their latest situation.

He also reviewed the defendants’ enjoyment of their various human rights, such as indictment, access to a lawyer, contact with family members, health and food status, etc.

In a separate conversation with the officials and relevant authorities, the Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights also touched upon the need to expedite the processing of the judicial cases brought against the detainees and called on the authorities to make sure they continue to enjoy their rights during all stages including arrest, preliminary investigation, trial and admittance to the detention center or prison.

During his visit to Evin prison, the Vice President of the Judiciary for International Affairs also met with some families of the detainees. He was informed of their demands and, subsequently, put the follow-up of these demands on the agenda.

In continuation of his prison visitations, the Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights will also go to the Tehran Correction and Rehabilitation Center this week to closely examine the condition of those detained and kept there for participating in the riots.
