Iran: Humanitarian exemption in sanctions Big Lie

  • Iran: Humanitarian exemption in sanctions Big Lie
The Secretary of Iran's High Council for Human Rights says that exempting humanitarian goods from sanctions is a big lie to escape the pressure of public opinion and international responsibility.

Kazem Gharibabadi met and talked with the ambassadors and representatives of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Geneva on Tuesday at the 51st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

While referring to the report of the UN special rapporteur on unilateral coercive measures Alena Douhan during her visit to Iran (May 8-18), Iran's Gharibabadi called on all member countries of the OIC to express their official positions in the Human Rights Council meeting on the supporting the mission opposing to unilateral sanctions against human rights.

While pointing to the efforts of the special rapporteur in raising public awareness about the destructive effects of unilateral sanctions on human rights, he stated:

"Under the pretext of fear of American sanctions and punishment, many countries and companies refuse cooperating with Iran, especially in the field of providing humanitarian items. "

In this meeting, the representatives of several countries, including Afghanistan, Lebanon, Gambia, and Turkiye, condemned the unilateral coercive measures and expressed the need for a collective effort to deal with them.
