Europe a haven for economic criminals

  • Europe a haven for economic criminals
The Deputy for International Affairs of Iran's Judiciary Kazem Gharibabadi says the European countries are hosting the most notorious economic criminals of the world.

Speaking in a meeting held on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day in Tehran on Tuesday, Kazem Gharibabadi said that the UN "Convention against Corruption" is one of the few ones in the fight against crimes that Iran has minor problems with.

"European countries are failing in the fulfillment of their international obligations, and when it comes to fighting corruption, they accuse other countries, while hosting the biggest economic criminals," he noted.

As the first comprehensive international treaty specifically addressing the issue of corruption, the Convention against Corruption was ratified by the United Nations General Assembly on October 31, 2003, and signed by the Islamic Republic of Iran in the same year.

International Anti-Corruption Day has been observed annually, on December 9, since the passage of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption on October 31, 2003, to raise public awareness for anti-corruption.
