The 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump, has ordered more federal executions than any other president in the United States.
While US laws prohibit the execution of offenders with disabilities, Trump has ordered the execution of men and women with a history of mental illness. A number of other death sentences are due to be carried out in the US federal government by January 15, while human rights activists have been highly critical of Donald Trump's orders regarding executions, the US president has ignored these criticisms.
In 2020, the US government executed 10 people. It was the first time the federal government conducted more executions than all US states combined, according to a database compiled by the Death Penalty Information Centre.
