A man accused of “insult” has been sentenced to buy needy students educational books instead of going to jail, Head of Golestan Province Judiciary said.
He was sentenced to doing six months in jail for insulting and disturbing the plaintiff; however, since he had no criminal records, he was assigned to offer apologies to the plaintiff and purchase educational books for needy students in cooperation with a local library in the county where he lives, Hashemian added.
Golestan Judiciary Chief also said that substitute punishments have been predicted by the Islamic Penal Code and could be applied as punishments for offences which do not endanger citizens’ security.
