The High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran issued a statement strongly condemning the criminal attacks of the Zionist regime on our country which led to the martyrdom of a group of innocent Iranian citizens, including women, children, senior commanders of the armed forces, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and a number of the country's nuclear scientists. The text of this statement is as follows:

In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
انا لله و انا الیه راجعون
We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return

The Zionist criminal regime's aggression against our country in the early hours of Friday, June 13, 2025, and the martyrdom of a group of citizens, including defenseless women and children, and senior military commanders who were the true defenders of the rights of the Iranian nation in various fields during the years following the Islamic People's Revolution, as well as scientists who sacrificed their lives for the country's progress, is a repetition of the historical scenario of the confrontation between right and wrong and the final blow to the lifeless body of the most important international principles and rules, such as the protection of human rights, respect for the rule of international law, prohibition of threats and use of force, observance of the independence and national and territorial sovereignty of states, responsibility and accountability, etc.

Although the United Nations was founded in 1945 with the dream of ending war and bloodshed, the injustice and politicization institutionalized within it have, after 80 years, brought an extremely unfortunate and dark record to this institution which is supposed to protect human rights and international peace and security.

The first cornerstone of the destruction of the United Nations must be sought in the identification of the fake, illegitimate and illegal Zionist regime, under the name of the state. The institution that was supposed to oversee the implementation of the provisions of the United Nations Charter was subjected to political games and instrumental use by self-proclaimed governments to the extent that at different times, the institution itself, through its official representatives, attempted to violate its fundamental and founding rules, such as the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter.

In such a scenario, human rights, which were once considered the main goal of the United Nations and the UN Charter, have today become the main victim of the policies of oppressive and arrogant governments.

The crimes of the Zionist regime last night are not only a violation of the legitimate rights of the Iranian nation-state, but also a clear violation of the Peremptory Norms (jus cogens) and erga omnes of public international law and a clear crime against the principles and foundations of international law, in which the hands of the so-called peace-loving and human rights-seeking actors are stained.

The High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran sends its congratulation and condolences to the Supreme Leader, the noble people of the country and the families of the martyrs on the martyrdom of the defenders and the devotees as well as the defenseless and civilian citizens who sacrificed their lives for our homeland as a result of the unforgivable crime of the Zionist regime.

The inherent right to self-defense, to equip oneself and to engage in it, is considered one of the most fundamental human rights of the Iranian nation, which cannot be waived under any circumstances. Therefore, responding to this brutal aggression in the form of self-defense as stipulated in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter is the right of the Iranian nation, which will be implemented by the government, and the High Council for Human Rights will also monitor the implementation of this action.

The High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran also recalls the duties of the UN Secretary-General in accordance with the UN Charter, as well as the duties and responsibilities of the President and High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations, and calls for immediate action by the UN and human rights mechanisms in this regard. All UN member states, especially Islamic countries and all states concerned with international peace and security, are expected to immediately condemn this criminal aggression and take immediate and collective action to confront this dangerous adventure that has undoubtedly exposed global peace and security to an unprecedented threat.

The High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran finally emphasizes that the dangerous and far-reaching effects and consequences resulting from the Zionist regime's aggression against our beloved homeland of Iran will be the responsibility of this regime and its supporters and will not go unpunished. The Zionist regime's aggressive actions against Iran couldn’t have been carried out without the coordination and permission of the United States. Accordingly, the US government, as the main supporter of this regime, is also responsible for the dangerous effects and consequences of the Zionist regime's adventurism.
