Spokesman: US not qualified to lecture Iran on human rights

  • Spokesman: US not qualified to lecture Iran on human rights

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kana'ani dismissed the US State Department’s report on the situation of human rights in his country, and said that Washington is in no position to preach Tehran on the issue.

Kana'ani described the content of an annual report by the US Department of State on the situation of human rights in Iran as "baseless, invalid and politically-motivated", saying it stems from "the American regime’s rejected approach of intervention in the domestic affairs of independent states".

“This report has no relevance in terms of judgment and evaluation of the sublime issue of human rights in international relations,” the senior diplomat stated.

He emphasized the lofty position, the importance and originality of the issue of human rights in the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the country’s other laws and regulations as well as Iran’s respect for its relevant international commitments.

“The domineering regime in America is not at all expected to say the facts and realities of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the spokesperson added.

Referring to the widespread cases of human rights violations by the US inside and outside America, Kana'ani said, “The American government is in no position to speak about the high values of human rights in other countries.”

“America hypocritically claims to defend the human rights of the Iranian people, while it is systematically violating the human rights of the Iranian people with a variety of cruel, illegal and unilateral sanctions against the Iranian nation,” the top diplomat continued.

In addition, he added, the US, through providing organized support to terror groups, is standing by those groups and against the Iranian people.

The official also enumerated cases of blatant violations of human rights in America.

The spokesman stressed that the US police’s violent treatment of people and illegal use of force, structural and targeted discrimination against black people by the police and the judicial system of this country, violation of the rights of minorities and people of color, suppression of protesters, violent treatment of asylum seekers their imprisonment, and inhumane behavior toward them and their children, human rights abuses and racial discrimination in prisons, especially the prisons of the Southern states of this country, and treatment of prisoners like slaves, are only among the many cases of continuous human rights violations in the United States, which have been a serious source of concern for international organizations and human rights institutions.

Iran blasts the blatant violations of human rights in the US and Europe, stressing for the US, human rights is merely a tool for exerting political pressure on independent states to advance their foreign policy objectives. Officials in Tehran call on the international community to hold the US accountable for its crimes. They mocked the US claim over supporting Iranian women and girls amid harsh sanctions which have disrupted the ordinary lives of the people.

Tehran has also denounces the disturbing human rights situation in the European countries, and note the West does not have the authority to be the flag-bearer in this field.

Iranian officials have numerously urged the international organizations to condemn police brutality against women in the United States and European states, instead of expressing concern over human rights in other countries.
