Al Wefaq boycotts elections due to repelling of reform in Bahrain

  • Al Wefaq boycotts elections due to repelling of reform in Bahrain
Al-Wefaq deputy Secretary General Sheikh Hussain al-Daihi has boycotted general election in Bahrain, condemning the Bahraini rulers for repelling real reform, pursuing political repression, and allowing the Zionist enemy to infiltrate in the Arab country.

The renowned sheikh made the remarks in a press conference, saying that the people of Bahrain - with all components and sects - have no real role or representation in legislation and implementation.

The main problem that Bahrainis suffer from is the absence of a legal state as a result of the monopoly of power by a limited group, singling out decision-making, wealth and security, and depriving the people from all their rights, he warned.

So, our people have paid the price of killing, imprisonment, displacement, defilement of honor, revocation of nationalities, demolition of mosques, and all kinds of human rights and political infringements, the opposition leader argued.

Referring to the 2002 constitution, which is not in agreement, al-Daihi underlined it becomes clear that the political system is based on absolute power, as this constitution mixes the executive, legislative and judicial powers in one framework in contradiction to the principle of "the people are the source of all powers."

As a result of crackdown on dissidents, Bahrain, despite its small size, has become one of the most prominent violators of human rights in the world, the sheikh added.

Pointing to general elections scheduled to be held in Bahrain on November 12 to elect the 40 members of the Council of Representatives, he mentioned that we are meant to accept these useless elections, which are held according to the government’s desires and whims, which consecrate injustice, enslavement, and marginalization that no sane, straightforward, and honest citizen, whose eyes and heart are on the interests of his people and his country, would approve.

He also cautioned that the elections perpetuate the crisis, tightening the locks on the dungeon doors of our loved ones, and allowing the Zionist enemy to infiltrate through normalization in our unadulterated Bahrain.

Therefore, al-Wefaq rejects all forms and instruments of slavery, singling out fateful decisions, and marginalizing the people, which will be the result of these fabricated elections, to clarify our reasons, justifications, and visions, and to give the regime the last opportunity to undo this farce process, so that no party, whatsoever would blame us, he argued.

According to the opposition figure, the reasons for the boycott are many and varied, and are related to the constitutional, political, security and social status quo, including stifling political and human rights crisis, engineering of the electoral districts and its profoundly unfair division, lack of legislative and oversight powers, participation of the military personnel who constitute more than 17% of the electorate, adoption of the Political Isolation Law that averts all activists and opponents belonging to the main political parties from running and voting.

Al-Wefaq announces full boycott of the parliamentary and municipal elections, and calls on people to boycott this farcical process, al-Daihi said, concluding that the party expects the lowest level of participation in it, and that the acts of threats, intimidation, and coercion by the regime in Bahrain will not work.
