Deputy Head of the Iranian Judiciary and Secretary of the county’s High Council for Human Rights on Wednesday underlined Iran’s strong resolve to help the promotion of human rights both inside the country and overseas.
Kazem Gharibabadi made the remarks during a meeting with UN Human Rights Council President Federico Villegas on the sidelines of the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
He also stressed the necessity for avoiding having a politically motivated approach to human rights issues.
Taking selective approaches and double standards would weaken human rights, he noted.
Gharibabadi urged the UN Human Rights Council to address the challenges facing human rights – such as terrorism, unilateral punitive measures, and their negative impact on making use of human rights.
During the meeting, both sides called for further enhancement of relations between Iran and the council.
