WHO: Registration of Iranian COVID vaccines to be expedited

  • WHO: Registration of Iranian COVID vaccines to be expedited
The Director-General of the World Health Organization says it will accelerate the assessment and registration of the Iranian-made COVID vaccines.

The Vice-President of Iran's Judiciary for International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, and the Director-General of WHO Tedros Adhanom met each other on the sidelines of the 49th high-ranking meeting of the UN Human Rights Council.

Adhanom highlighted the high vaccination rate in Iran, both for the Iranian and the foreign refugees, and said the pandemic situation stabilized in Iran.

He said: "We appreciate Iran's efforts to produce domestic vaccines, and we will expedite the process of evaluating Iranian vaccines, one of which COVIran Barekat has made great progress in technical assessment and licensing of its emergency use."

Kazem Gharibabadi, for his part, called for expediting the registration of COVIran Barekat and Spikogen so that they could find their way to the international markets and the impoverished countries.

Gharibabadi also criticized the West unilateral sanctions and their harmful effects on the right to life and the patients in Iran, including the Thalassemia and EB patients, and called on the WHO director-general to intervene.
