  • Sources: US Troops Leaving Afghanistan for Yemen
A number of US troops have entered a military base in Southern Yemen after withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Yemeni media reported.

The Arabic-language Vikalat Sahafiyat al-Yameniyat news website reported that a number of US troops who have withdrawn from Afghanistan arrived at Aden Airport in Southern Yemen and then moved to Lahij province.

The US has also transferred dozens of military vehicles, UAVs, Patriot systems to Al-Anad airbase in Lahij province, it added.

According to local sources in Lahij, Saudi Arabia has forced the UAE forces to leave Al-Anad military base after the arrival of US troops.

Al-Anad base, which is the most important base in the Gulf of Aden, has witnessed clashes between the UAE forces and Saudi-affiliated militarnts in recent days, but eventually, the UAE forces were forced to leave the base.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday that the American troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan is more than 95 percent complete.

"US Central Command estimates that we have completed more than 95% of the entire withdrawal process," CENTCOM stated in a release.

President Joe Biden has noted that he expects the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan to be completed by August 31. However, the official deadline was set for September 11, the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States that sparked the war.

The Defense Department recently transferred leadership of the US troops in Afghanistan to CENTCOM Commander Gen. Frank McKenzie. Defense officials have announced McKenzie will retain the same authorities as his predecessor, including the ability to direct airstrikes against the Taliban or against other threats.

The Taliban movement has been gaining ground in Afghanistan and now claims to control 85 percent of the country.
