Iran HR body accuses US of easing sanctions after Iran made own COVID-19 vaccine

  • Iran HR body accuses US of easing sanctions after Iran made own COVID-19 vaccine

Iran’s Human Rights Council took to Twitter on Sunday to accuse the United States of issuing sanctions waivers on the coronavirus-related items after Iran made its own COVID-19 vaccines.

"82,000 Iranians were killed with the Coronavirus and the US issues sanctions waivers now after 16 months from the beginning of the virus spread and after Iran made its own vaccine," it tweeted.

It added that sanctioning transactions related to the items subject to the latest US announcement are against international law even in the time of war.

“The Iranian nation's demand is to remove the illegal sanctions and punish those who imposed them," it tweeted.

The United States Treasury Department recently issued guidance easing the way for delivery of products such as face masks, ventilators, and vaccines to combat the coronavirus pandemic to heavily sanctioned countries like Iran, Venezuela, and Syria.

The guidance contrasts with the previous remarks by the US officials that humanitarian items were exempted from sanctions.
