13% of Afghan society disabled due to war: Report

  • 13% of Afghan society disabled due to war: Report

The Independent Human Rights Commission (IHRC) said in a report that the number of people with disabilities in Afghanistan has increased by 11 percent in the past 14 years due to war, insecurity and landmines.

The IHRC has published the results of its study on the "Human Rights Situation of Persons with Disabilities in Afghanistan (2014)". In this study, 1,504 people were interviewed in 22 provinces of the country, of which 1,192 were men and 310 persons were women.

The findings of the Independent Human Rights Commission show that 13.9% of the total population of the country, i.e. 4,475,800 people are people with disabilities. The commission said the number of people with disabilities had increased by 11.2 percent in 14 years.

To address these challenges, the AIHRC has proposed that the government consolidate the position of persons with disabilities in the peace process and include them in the talks as one of the major victims of war and conflict.
