Iran's High Council of Human Rights expresses its deep concern over the current methods of handling the civil assemblies in Britain and condemns the police violence against protesters.

Iran's High Council of Human Rights statement released is as follows:

According to reports, at least one thousand people have been detained and more than ۴۰ others have been put to trial merely due to peacefully protesting against the British government’s policies.

The large-scale brutality of police is a quintessence of the obvious violation of civil rights, particularly the customary law and the British government’s obligations to safeguard and promote human rights such as article ۲۰ of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, articles ۲۱ and ۲۲ of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, article ۸ of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, article ۵ of the Declaration of Human Rights Defenders and finally it is the violation of people’s freedom of holding peaceful assemblies.

The HCHR expresses its deep concern over the current methods of handling the civil assemblies in Britain and condemns the police violence against protesters.

Besides, the HCHR reminds the British government of the necessity to ensure its international obligations and the civil rights and urges the UN Human Rights Council to take into consideration the mentioned situation and prepare a report in this regard based on its mandate and duties.
