Iran, Syria vow to protect human rights of Golan's residence

The general of Iran's High Council for Human Rights expressed hope that resistance will lead to the freedom of Golan Height "just like the Southern Lebanon;" calling all Islamic countries and human rights advocates to denounce this "conspiracy" by US and Israel.

"Washington's recognition of the Golan Heights as Israeli territory is not only an apparent breach of international law but also violates the Western human rights criteria."

Trump, with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu looking over his shoulder during a visit to Washington, signed a proclamation last month, officially granting US recognition of the Golan Heights as Israeli territory.

Iran, Turkey and Russia as well as some European countries sharply criticized the US president, and Syria vowed to recover the area using "all available means".

In his meeting with Syrian ambassador to Iran on Sunday, Larijani expressed concerns about the Syrian residents of Golan Height, saying that Zionist Regime is pressuring the residents to be a second class citizen of Israel.

"It's a grave threat for Golan Height's residence and we are responsible to protect their rights."

Since 1980, Israel began efforts to force Israeli citizenship on the remaining native Syrian population in the Occupied Syrian Golan. The vast majority of the Syrian population have refused to renounce their Syrian nationality and, consequently, suffered severe harassment by the Israeli authorities that included Israeli forces conducting house raids; threats to fire people from their jobs; cutting off water supplies intended for crop irrigation; and closing shops. Today, the majority of the native Syrian population continue to reject Israeli citizenship.

Syria slams designation of IRGC as terrorist organization

The Syrian Ambassador to Iran Adnan Mahmoud, in his part, appreciated Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei for his guidance and the firm support of Iranian people for his country.

"We strongly believe that the US President Donald Trump's designation of Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a foreign terrorist organization is a part of Washington's strategy against Axis of Resistance and shows US anger of its grave defeat in the region."

Washington's unprecedented move sparked criticism from several countries around the world, which say blacklisting another country's military runs counter to international regulations and could lead to further instability in the restive Middle East region.

"US and its allied countries are dungeons of human rights"

Speaking to the journalists after the meeting, Larijani vowed that Tehran and Damascus will cooperate to protect the human rights of Golan Height's residence according to the international law.

Calling the US and its allies as "dungeons of human rights", Iran's Human Rights chief stressed that US and its allies have always made instrumental use of human rights to attack Iran while they themselves are main violators of human rights.

He described the defeat of Daesh (ISIS) in Syria and Iraq a big victory for the resistance pivot, noting that Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) was listed terrorist by the US because of its role in gaining this victory.
