Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that the government will explore the root causes of the recent massive floods in the county and mobilize efforts to compensate for damages.

The President said a special committee will established for probing the causes of the disaster in order to prevent the similar incidents in the future.

He made the remarks in the cabinet's first meeting in the new Iranian year which began March 21.

Over the past week, unprecedented heavy rains and flash floods have hit various parts of Iran. At least 19 people were killed and scores more were injured and displaced.

Acknowledging the efforts made by all officials and people to contain the floods across Iran, he stressed the necessity of taking urgent measures to prevent repetition of such disasters that are cause by flash rains.

The president also said that though flood are not considered rare phenomenon in Iran, the recent ones that hit at least 25 provinces out of 31 were unprecedented.

He is heading to Iran's northern flood-stricken provinces to meet with people and manage the situation.
