Five European UNSC member states in a letter referred to US decision to recognize Israel sovereignty on Golan Heights as opposing the international laws and UNSC resolutions.

“On behalf of the current EU Members of the Security Council – Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, and the United Kingdom – we would like to make a brief statement on the occupied Golan Heights, in the context of the US Presidential Proclamation issued yesterday stating that the United States recognizes that the Golan Heights are part of the State of Israel,” the letter reads.

“Our position on the status of the Golan Heights is well-known, and we would like to make clear that this position has not changed. In line with international law, and relevant Security Council resolutions, notably Resolutions 242 and 497, we do not recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the territories occupied by Israel since June 1967, including the Golan Heights,” the UNSC members said adding that Golan is not a part of Zionist regime of Israel’s territory.

Trump tweeted on Thursday that after 52 years it is time for the United States to fully recognize Israel's Sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

“Annexation of territory by force is prohibited under international law. Any declaration of a unilateral border change goes against the foundation of the rules-based international order and the UN Charter,” they noted.

“We raise our strong concerns about the broader consequences of recognizing illegal annexation and also about the broader regional consequences,” they reiterated.

Earlier, The Lebanese Foreign Ministry in a statement condemned the US President Donald Trump’s decision, saying “The US presidential declaration on Israel's right to annex the Syrian Golan is condemnable and breaches all rules of international law, undermining any effort to reach a just peace.”

Meanwhile earlier, Syrian Foreign Ministry said that in a flagrant aggression on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, the US President has recognized the annexation of the occupied Syrian Golan to the Zionist occupation entity.

The US decision indicates US hostility against Arab world, the statement said, adding that Washington proved that it is the most important enemy of the Arab world.

The Syrian ministry described the US president's choice as indication of vivid aggression and close alliance between Washington and the Zionist regime of Israel.
