Two terrorists and three of their accomplices involved in terror activities against Shias in north western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) province were arrested by security forces during an operation in Mansehra city, a military statement said.

According to the military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the terrorists taken into custody in the intelligence-based operation (IBO) were also involved in attacks on security forces and imambargah in the K-P district.

Security forces along with Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel carried out the IBO as a part of the ongoing Operation Radd-ul-Fassad.

Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad was launched in February 2017 after a rapid increase in terrorist attacks in the country.

Earlier it was announced that in a bid to make the National Action plan more effective and to rid the country of the scourge of terrorism the Punjab CTD had placed bounties on the
heads of some 62 alleged terrorists of different banned outfits operating in the country.

According to reports, some 20 terrorists from the list are part of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi while others belong to different proscribed organisations such as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Al Qaeda, Sipah-e-Sahaba and Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.

Pakistan army spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor during a press conference in August 2017 said that the security forces had dismantled a network of terrorists in Rawalpindi city whose aim was to create a divide between Sunni and Shia population of Pakistan by carrying out terrorist activities against both sects of Islam.
