Iran dismisses Javid Rahman’s “false claims”

  • Iran dismisses Javid Rahman’s “false claims”
Statement

In response to Javid Rahman’s report, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s envoy to the UN read a statement as follows:

Countries' statements are rejected by Iran and they are considered as negative points against human rights ambitions and against the promotion of human rights.

Also, the appointment of the special rapporteur for Iran is considered as an unfair and political measure taken against Iran by certain countries, who have a hostile approach towards the Iranian nation.

Safeguarding human rights is one of the fundamental principles of the Islamic Revolution; moreover, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always protected this principle as a symbol of freedom and independence, for, in our view, the promotion of human rights is a moral and religious obligation.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to protect its people against terrorism and drugs which unfortunately exist in Western Asia due to the interfering policies and aggression of the US and its allies.

There are double standards in the conduct of those who have prepared the resolution against Iran since on the one hand, they pretend to be worried about Iranians' human rights and on the other hand, they have remained silent with respect to the US illegal and hostile sanctions which affect mostly children, women and men in need for medicine. Using human rights as tools in order to pressurize countries which have made noticeable progress in the domain of human rights is the violation of human rights principles and contradicts the humane concept of human rights.

The Islamic Republic of Iran will continue its sincere cooperation with the office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN human rights mechanisms and other countries so as to promote human rights. With respect to the preparation of the special rapporteur's report, there are certain methodological flaws which are in direct contradiction to the resolution 5/2 regarding the human rights mandate holders' code of conduct. Also, the report should be based on professional principles and should not be prepared with a political and discriminatory approach.
