Yukiya Amano

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano announced on Monday that Tehran has been completely abiding by its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“It is essential that Iran continues to fully implement those commitments,” Amano said, addressing IAEA’s board of governors in Vienna today.

The agency continues to verify the non-diversion of nuclear material declared by Iran under its Safeguards Agreement, according to the official.

Evaluations regarding the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities in Iran will continue, Amano added.

The agency has reiterated that it undertakes analysis and takes action “in an impartial, independent and objective manner, within the existing safeguards framework.”

Earlier in September, Amano reiterated Iran's commitment to its undertakings based on the 2015 nuclear deal with the world powers.

US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington would no longer remain part of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and promised to re-impose the highest level of economic sanctions against Iran.

Iranian Ambassador to the UN Agencies Headquartered in Vienna Kazzem Qaribabadi said on last Friday that the nuclear deal survival hinged on other signatories meeting their promises to Tehran.

He urged the remaining signatories to the nuclear deal to deliver on their commitments to Tehran if they are interested in the survival of the agreement.

“The full and honest implementation of the obligations of all parties is a fundamental basis for the continuation of the deal, and if we want to preserve the nuclear deal, the remaining members of the agreement must ensure Iran's enjoyment of JCPOA-related benefits by adopting appropriate practical measures,” Qaribabadi affirmed.

His remarks came an hour after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released its 14th report on Iran’s abidance by the nuclear agreement of July 14, 2015.

The Iranian diplomat said that the IAEA’s fourteenth report on Iran’s nuclear activities once again confirmed the Islamic Republic’s full compliance with its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, also known as the JCPOA.

“Despite the many efforts of certain enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran to divert the attention of the IAEA and the international community, cooperation between Iran and the Agency is on a constructive path, and this report once again confirms that the Agency has had the necessary access,” he said.

The Iranian envoy went on to highlight the need for the IAEA to continue its impartiality and professionalism in carrying out its mission. He also censured the exertion of pressure by certain countries on the IAEA to achieve some political objectives.
