In his meeting with the Eritrean permanent representative to the UN office in Geneva, Seyed Majid Tafreshi criticized the dominance of political aspects of human rights issues over the humanitarian ones in UNHRC, urging all independent countries to unite in order to solve this dilemma.
Highlighting the human rights achievements of Islamic Republic of Iran, he denounced the efforts made by some western countries to demonize Iran. “Some developing countries are giving up to the pressures of the West and follow their orders; those countries need to show more independence.”
According to Tafreshi, Iran has sent invitations to four UN representatives for Special Procedures and is prepared to receive a visit from them. Moreover, Tehran is constantly in contact with UN mandate-holders in Geneva and New York.
The Eritrean Permanent Representative to the UN, Mr. Amanuel Giorgio for his turn, welcomed the judiciary and human rights cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, saying that his country, just like Iran, has suffered from unilateral and illegal sanctions for years.
Furthermore, the two sides agreed on boosting ties and marked their serious decision to seclude human right issues from political objectives in UNHRC and to fight unilateral punishments which aim to violate human rights.
