The United Nations Special Envoy for the Syrian Affair Geir Pedersen met and conferred with Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on Tuesday evening.

The meeting focused on various issues related to Syria, including the new constitution and the future of Syria, the rebuilding of the country, the return of the Syrian refugees to their homes, political reform and the fight against terrorism, the withdrawal of American forces from Syria, and the continuation of Iran's cooperation with the United Nations for solving the remaining problems in Syria.

Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister received his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Muallem in Tehran on Tuesday and the two foreign ministers conferred on a number of issues during the meeting.

Muallem, who is here to meet with high-ranking Iranian officials, has already met with Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.

During his stay in Tehran, the Syrian minister is also scheduled to have a meeting with the Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.

The visit to Tehran by the Syrian foreign minister is taking place at a time when the 4th tripartite talks of the leaders of Iran, Russia and Turkey over the latest developments in Syria is already slated for Feb 14 in the Russian resort city of Sochi.
