  • Justice Minister: Representation of Iran's human rights achievements not desirable
Seyed Alireza Avayi

Iranian Minister of Justice and the head of the National Body on the Convention on Rights of the Child (NBCRC) said that the Islamic Republic of Iran, although has been a leader in many human rights issues has been unable to express widespread representation of achievements.

Seyyed Alireza Avaei criticized the weakness of publication and the lack of representation of the work done in the country on Tuesday at the 23rd NBCRC' meeting which was attended by representatives of executive agencies and NGOs.

He said, 'In the area of reporting and providing statistics to international institutions, a country like Saudi Arabia, with a history that nobody cannot ignore, provides a 40-page report on the status of its child's rights and based on the power of advertising, defend it at international assemblies.'

'Today's need for practical work is felt more than ever,' he said, adding that 'we always need to pursue theoretical and scientific topics.'

He went on to say that for example, making tangible changes in indicators such as 'our global position' in the field of children's rights and also reducing the numbers of children at risk of harm, labor and street children and accurate planning in this regard can be hopeful making more incentive to continue work.
