Refugees in Iran have the right to ask the judicial system to settle their disputes, a local official said.

Attended by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Iran and a group of judiciary officials; Kerman held an educational workshop for refugees on Saturday.

Mohammad Bagher Eslami, deputy of Kerman Judiciary’s chief noted judiciary’s approach to organize foreign nationals' affairs, adding that according to article 14 of the universal declaration of human rights, everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution.

Mentioning that the issue of asylum and protecting people has been referred to by the holy Qoran, he stressed the judiciary should appear strong and determined in the social arena so that the government could execute its social security.

Iran is home to almost one million registered refugees, the vast majority from Afghanistan. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi recently recognized Iran’s generous policies, which are oriented towards the inclusion of refugees in national services and the economy, including through access to the national health insurance scheme, permission to work in a range of occupations and documentation.

In a ground-breaking move, since 2015, all Afghan children, regardless of status, have also had access to primary and secondary education in Iran.
