In reaction to human rights violations by Riyadh, a U.S. Senator on Wednesday urged a halt to arms sale to Saudi Arabia.

According to an Al Jazeera report, Rand Paul said both the Republican and the Democratic parties should take action to stop selling arms to Saudi Arabia.

The Republican Senator added the US should not protect those who violate human rights and sponsor terrorism.

Pointing to the horrific crime of slaying Saudi journalist and the Saudi coalition's attacks on the city of al-Hudaydah, Paul said, these are examples of Saudi regime's crimes which continue to be supported economically and politically by the US.

The US senator had earlier called Riyadh's explanation for killing Jamal Khashoggi 'insulting', saying one cannot believe a 'fistfight' would lead to dismembering somebody with a 'bone saw.'

The US President Donald Trump has repeatedly rejected the idea of acting against Saudi Arabia, saying it would be of detriment to the US.

However the US Senate will in the coming weeks vote on a bill to punish Saudi Arabia for waging war on Yemen, claiming the lives of innocent people and also for killing the critic journalist back in October.
