In all, 634 films have so far been submitted to the festival's secretariat, of which 89 are directed by female artists. The number shows a four-percent rise compared to the figure for last year.
The upcoming edition of the event will hold different sections, including national competition, international competition, Shahid Avini Award and professional workshops.
The international section will have three categories of short, mid-length and feature documentaries.
The national section includes two categories of short (less than 45 minutes) and feature documentaries (more than 45 minutes).
The Shahid Avini Award is dedicated to documentary films related to the sacrifices, selflessness and resistance of the Iranian people during Iraq-Iran war of the 1980s.
Documentaries in all lengths, formats, and subjects produced between 2014 and 2016 are eligible to participate in the Special, Tribute, Retrospective and Panorama sections which are all non-competitive.
Organized by the Documentary and Experimental Film Center, the first edition of the Cinema Vérité was held in 2007.
The objectives of Cinema Vérité are to protect the nation's identity, promote creative documentary, reinforce the link between documentary cinema and social facts and events, introduce new global developments in documentary cinema, provide financial support for documentarians by distributing and screening their works in other festivals and remove hurdles to film production.
