Iran rejects claims by UN special rapporteur as biased, worthless

  • Iran rejects claims by UN special rapporteur as biased, worthless
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh on Wednesday rejected claims in a recent report by Javaid Rehman, the UN Special Rapporteur, on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran as biased and worthless

Khatibzadeh said that the report presented at the 76th UN Security Council meeting is selective, politically motivated, and worthless.

He said that the report runs contrary to the principles enshrined in the code of conduct for rapporteurs, including the necessity to obtain facts through objective and reliable information from credible sources.

Referring to the hostile stances of the UN special rapporteur towards Iran, the spokesman said that the report has turned into a political statement of hostile terrorist groups against Iran.

He regretted that the report is focused on false claims and fails to pay attention to Iran's measures which have led to the promotion of the human rights situation in the country.

Khatibzadeh said that it is basically wrong to appoint a special rapporteur on the human rights situation for a country that is under tough pressure of US economic terrorism and has though remained committed to its duties to its citizens and the international community as well.

The foreign ministry spokesman concluded by pointing to the main founders and supporters of the Special Rapporteur's agenda, noting that some of the countries that carry out the most international human rights pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran have imposed or enforced oppressive sanctions on the Iranian people themselves.

He also said that these countries are among the main human rights violators in the world due to selling advanced weapons to criminals, strategic cooperation with the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people, and support for terrorist groups.
