The Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights demanded the release of a Christian Iranian citizen from British prison

  • The Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights demanded the release of a Christian Iranian citizen from British prison

The Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran criticized the British government's opposition to the amnesty and return of the Christian Iranian citizen in Britain prison and demanded efforts for his immediate release.

HCHR_Kazem Gharibabadi, in a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, referring to the unfavorable situation of "Richard John", a Christian Iranian citizen imprisoned in the British prison and appreciating the efforts of this ministry to follow up on his situation, stated: “This Iranian citizen, who is sentenced to life imprisonment by the court of England, in the hope of being released from prison and returning to the country, has taken away its British citizenship, but the parole committee of the British Ministry of Justice has still opposed the amnesty and deportation of this prisoner”.

Pointing to the situation of this Iranian citizen who has been deprived of even a single day of leave for the past 20 years, and hasn’t been provided with the treatment in a protected specialized hospital, the Secretary General wrote: “Mr. John does not enjoy favorable conditions in prison and is denied access to medical and health services. Considering Mr. John's deplorable condition in British prisons, his mother's request as well as the acceptance of domestic institutions to provide medical and health services to Mr. John, there is no reason not to transfer him to Iran”.

At the end, Gharibabadi requested that the diplomatic and legal efforts for the release and transfer of this compatriot to the Islamic Republic of Iran continue seriously”.
