A senior official of World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday praised Iran's efforts to eliminate measles and congenital rubella syndrome.

Ahmed Al Mandharii, director of the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Directorate for WHO congratulated Iran, Bahrain and Oman for receiving formal certification on the elimination of measles, rubella and Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS).

He made the remarks in a meeting with members of Eastern Mediterranean Regional Directorate for WHO, held on the sidelines of 72nd World Health Assembly of World Health Organization in Geneva.

The official invited member states to attend sixty-sixth session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean expected to be held in Tehran on October 14-17, 2019.

Health ministers and high-level representatives of the 22 countries and territories of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, partner organizations and civil society took part in the Sixty-fifth Session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, in Khartoum, Sudan, on October 15-18, 2018.
