Iran's Deputy Human Rights Chief Kazem Gharibabadi, leading a delegation of the High Council for Human Rights (HCHR), visited a crisis intervention center in the capital city of Tehran.

The visit of Deputy Secretary General of Iran's High Council for Human Rights for International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi to Navab Safavi Crisis Intervention Center was aimed at boosting inter-institutional cooperation.

Dr. Gharibabadi, who was accompanied by several judicial officials and authorities, was presented with a report on the center’s activities in various areas of child labor, child abuse, unprivileged women, disabled people, elderly people addicts and other socially-damaged groups.

Early into the session, Iran’s deputy HR chief said the visit aimed to reducing social damage and bridge the gap between relevant institutions as well as to improve services of crisis intervention centers.

“Women, children, people with disabilities and the elderly are considered to be vulnerable in any society and are therefore in need of appropriate and adequate support,” Gharibabadi continued.

Deputy director of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights for international affairs went on to state that “according to statistics and reports, rate of social harms like violence against women and child abuse in our country is lower than in many countries thanks to religious culture and values present in the Iranian society.”

The official asserted that presence of crisis intervention centers, rather than being a sign of worrying situation of violence inside the country, reveals the determination to prevent possible damages and to take necessary action when needs be.”

“It remains our duty to reflect these valuable actions to the people both domestically and internationally and to increase exchange of experiences through international interactions with other countries and institutions,” highlighted Iran’s deputy HR chief stressing that the country’s activities and achievements need to be presented at the international arena in an appropriate way.

Kazem Gharibabadi later pointed to the role of NGOs saying “naturally, one single institution is not able to take all necessary measures to prevent social damages which makes it necessary to use public capacities to achieve goals on the agenda.
