Iran has issued invitations to three thematic mandate-holder, Deputy head of Iran's High Council for Human Rights Khosro Hakimi said on Saturday.

The Deputy head of Iran's High Council for Human Rights said that the country has send invitations to three UN Special Procedures and is prepared to receive a visit from them.

The UN Mandate-holders carry out country visits to assess the situation of human rights at the national level. During such missions, the experts assess the general human rights situation in a given country, as well as the specific institutional, legal, judicial, administrative and de facto situation under their respective mandates.

Speaking in a meeting with Iranian NGOs and humanitarian activists on Saturday, Hakimi also noted the promising nature of The Universal Periodic Review (UPR); adding that the mechanism has unfortunately failed to replace UN resolution and lobby groups, as it was expected.

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a State-driven process, under the auspices of the Human Rights Council, which provides the opportunity for each State to declare what actions they have taken to improve the human rights situations in their countries and to fulfil their human rights obligations.

Iran's High Council for Human Rights (HCHR) has launched a website which serves as an information portal on Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Human Rights (HR) issues.

The website can be reached in Persian and English.
