Head of Iran's High Council for Human Rights made the remarks at a meeting with a top-ranking Human Rights delegation of Afghanistan in Tehran.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is a supporter of the Afghan nation," highlighted Mohammad Javad Larijani asserting "we support the establishment of peace and progress in the neighboring country; venues for cooperation with neighbors will expand if they become more advanced and enjoy further peace."
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting with the Afghan delegation led by Fawzia Koofi, Iran's Larijani recounted on the topics raised at the joint session noting "the meeting pursued excellent grounds for bilateral cooperation in international judiciary and human rights arenas and we reviewed possibilities for bilateral relations."
Larijani further stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a supporter of the Afghan people; "we support establishment of peace and progress in the neighboring country; areas for cooperation grow as our neighbors become more developed and peaceful."
At the end of his remarks, the advisor to Iran's Judiciary's chief for international affairs affairs stressed that "given that we are on the side of Afghan people, fruitful discussions were made at the meeting in line with reinvigoration of ties especially in the field of human rights.
Fawzia Koofi, Chairman of Afghanistan's Women, Civil Society and Human Rights Commission of House of the People (Known as Wolesi Jirga), for her part said the meeting was one of the most important and best sessions she had attended during her stay in Tehran and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
She went on to underscore that various human rights issues had been discussed during the meeting adding "it was agreed to cooperate on transferring and exchanging know-how and skills among judges and prosecutors as regards international cooperation and collaboration in the field of UPR report.
Koofi concluded her remarks by emphasizing that "it was decided to exchange views and work on human rights issues and the reform of laws of both countries; "we hope that the joint effort will strengthen good relations between the two countries that have been around for many years."
