In the sideline of the meeting with the Afghan Minister of Justice, Mohammad Javad Larijani calledt the verdict issued by the ICJ is a minimum expectation and considering our future economic development, the US sanctions will not be able to stop our progress although the measures taken by the US are against the international law and somehow violate our nation’s rights. Besides, these sanctions are obviously against the human rights instruments such as the right to social and political development.

“During the past 5 years we have relied on international agreements more than needed. Even though we have never trusted the US, being in the same group with some other countries made us suppose that we might be able to reach an agreement with them, but, now we have come to the conclusion that none of their promises could be counted on”, Larijani added.

Regarding the Khashoggi case and the role of the US in it, Larijani told a journalist that Saudi Arabia has made a horrible mistake although there is no limit to the crimes they commit as they are killing innocent people in Yemen at the moment and they also created ISIS in Syria.

“The US and Trump have separated roles with respect to the Khashoggi case and I believe Trump has supervised this murder directly. He is actually in the habit of eliminating people whom he finds disturbing”, he said.

“This incident has an important lesson to teach and the world should see the real face of leaders who claim they are human rights and freedom advocates”, Head of the High Council for Human Rights added.
