Gharibabadi called for preparation of a legislative proposal in the parliament on the subject of sanctioning officials and institutions involved in suppressing the protesting student movement in the US.

HCHR_In a letter to the Head of the Parliament, the Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights and the Vice President of the Judiciary for International Affairs asked for the drafting of a legal plan with the subject of “sanctioning authorities and institutions involved in the suppression of the protesting student movement in the U.S”.

Referring to the anti-Iranian law known as "Mahsa Amini" in the US House of Representatives and the US Senate in continuation of hostile policies against the Iranian nation and the U.S. all-round support for the 2021 riots in Iran, Kazem Gharibabadi, the Vice President of the Judiciary for International Affairs and the Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a letter to the Head of the Parliament, called for the formulation of a legal plan with the subject of “sanctioning authorities and institutions involved in suppressing the protesting student movement in the U.S.”.

In this letter, regarding the suppression of student protests in the United States, Gharibabadi clarified: “These anti-Iranian demonstration movements are taking place in a situation where the U.S. regime in recent months, due to its comprehensive support for the genocide and crimes against humanity of the Zionist regime in Gaza, has been faced with massive student protests and unfortunately, instead of answering and taking responsibility, it dealt with peaceful protests in the most severe way possible and by resorting to extreme force, it brutally suppressed these protests and protesting students, including through arbitrary arrest , expulsion and exclusion from work and education and making a security atmosphere at the universities. These acts are in clear contradiction with the commitments of this country in guaranteeing freedom of expression, freedom of peaceful assembly, prohibition of arbitrary arrest, the right to education, etc. under the treaties and international conventions, especially the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights”.

In the continuation of this letter, the Secretary General of the HCHR noted: “Considering the targeted and hostile policies of the U.S regime towards the Iranian nation on the one hand and the dark track record of this regime in the field of human rights, including the suppression of student movements, on the other hand, it is suggested that the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, within the framework of reacting to their brutal acts and in order to express support and sympathy for the protesting students and professors, draft a legal plan on the subject of "Sanctioning authorities and institutions involved in suppressing the protesting student movement in the U.S." and put it on the agenda of the Parliament”.
