Iran dismisses using human rights as tool against nations

  • Iran dismisses using human rights as tool against nations
Following the adoption of a draft resolution on the situation of human rights in Iran by the UN Human Rights Council, the Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations Office in Geneva has rejected the use of human rights as a tool against nations.
Prior to voting on the anti-Iran draft resolution backed mainly by the UK and Northern Ireland, Ali Bahraini said that the supporters of the resolution hid themselves behind the title of human rights.

Certain states exploited the organization to advance their own political objectives, the official stated.

Presenting the resolution is viewed by Iran as a malign attempt to deliberately destroy the status of Iran in observing human rights by fabricating chaotic narratives, negative stereotypes, and false accusations, he underscored.

Instrumental use of human rights is unacceptable and endangers human rights cause, he said.

The Islamic Republic completely believes in respecting and promoting human rights, he underlined.

Iran’s achievements in observing human rights over the past four decades demonstrate the country’s seriousness in respecting, protecting, and restoring human rights, he added.

United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a draft resolution titled "Situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran" against Iran at the 52nd Regular Session Human Rights Council.

Some 23 member states were in favor, 8 countries were against and 16 others were in abstention.

Cuba, China, and South Africa delivered speeches in favor of Iran and warned of the instrumental and political use of human rights.
