Some 752 Afghan nationals residing in Gotvand, a city in southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan, received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, local director of health network said on Sunday.

Hooman Kalantari told IRNA that the process of vaccination is underway here.

Some 247 Afghan nationals have got their second shots, the official said.

The types of the vaccines injected are Sinopharm and AstraZeneca, he added.

In a related development, Bureau for Aliens and Foreign Immigrants Affairs of central Iranian province of Isfahan reported in mid-September that about 7,500 foreign nationals and refugees residing in the area have been vaccinated against coronavirus.

Reportedly, Iran hosts the biggest number of refugees across the world. About 1.5 million Afghan refugees are living in Iran illegally while 800,000 have ID cards and 400,000 have passports.

According to official statistics, over 450,000 Afghan refugees who have legal identity documents are studying at Iranian schools.
